General Information:
Next Step Housing provides permanent supportive housing to women and women-led families. Up to 11 women live in our site-based apartment building in North Minneapolis, and we support approximately 20 women and women-led families living in scattered site apartments throughout Hennepin County. Most Next Step Housing residents have encountered homelessness or crisis, and face ongoing barriers to full independence. Our primary goal for all clients is housing stability. Case managers work with women to coordinate community services, set and achieve personal goals, improve credit, maintain relationships with landlords, achieve education and career goals, and improve physical, mental and emotional health. A variety of staff-led activities and outings – art activities, holiday parties, theater performances, etc. – build community among clients, reduce the negative effects of social isolation, help women build emotional strength, and promote health and wellness. Supportive Housing Programs that provide an alternative living arrangement for individuals who, because of age, disability, substance abuse, mental illness, chronic homelessness or other circumstances, are unable to live independently without care, supervision and/or support to help them in the activities of daily living; or who need access to case management, housing support, vocational, employment and other services to transition to independent living.
