Class of Housing/Services: Emergency shelter for men and women. Transitional housing.

General Information:
Are you in need of a safe place to stay?  We provide a bed and supportive resources to 34 men and 6 women every night of the year. The men's and women’s sleeping and shower areas are located in separate, secure areas of the shelter. Single adults, age 18+ Beds for 34 men and 6 women 365 nights a year We maintain a safe, sober, and respectful community living environment for all. Shelter hours are 6pm-7am, daily. All guests must leave by 7am. Evening meal is served at 7pm. Our Saviour’s Shelter combines with St. Stephen’s and Simpson shelters for a weekly lottery held at Simpson Shelter: 2740 1st Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55408     Lottery beds are good for a 28 day stay with potential extension of up to 90 days.     You do not need an ID.     You must arrive completely sober and will be breathalyzed at the door.     If you cannot attend the lottery due to work, hospitalization, or restriction from Simpson properties, call 612.871.1138 by lottery start time to have your name entered as a call-in. Currently, call-ins are eligible for a spot on our wait list or for a nightly bed at Simpson and St. Stephen’s.     If you have previously received a lottery bed, you must wait 28 days between lotteries before entering again and 60 days to return to Our Saviour’s Shelter. Men’s Lottery Monday Doors at 6pm, starts at 6:30pm Enter through 28th St. door Women’s Lottery Wednesday Doors at 3pm, starts at 3:30pm Enter through 1st Ave. door If you do not win a bed at the Monday night lottery, you can call us at 612.872.4193×0 and leave a message each day before 5:45pm throughout the week. You will be placed on a waiting list based on your eligibility. Call again after 6pm (at 6pm is best) of the same day to see if there is an open bed. We keep 2 separate waiting lists—28-day beds and week-long beds. These lists start new every Monday. Catholic Charities (men only) and Salvation Army (men and women) are the other shelter options for single adults in Hennepin County and always have guaranteed openings. Transitional Housing and Permanent Supportive Housing: Our Transitional Housing and Permanent Supportive Housing programs are not taking applications directly. Individuals must stay at our Emergency Shelter to complete a referral.

Helpful Definitions For Our Saviours Housing Elca:
Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.Supportive Housing Programs that provide an alternative living arrangement for individuals who, because of age, disability, substance abuse, mental illness, chronic homelessness or other circumstances, are unable to live independently without care, supervision and/or support to help them in the activities of daily living; or who need access to case management, housing support, vocational, employment and other services to transition to independent living.
