Class of Housing/Services: Rescue Mission for men. Serves homeless men with the love and compassion of Christ.

General Information:
Overnight Guest Services Men are often referred to SMHS by local agencies, churches, hospitals, and other homeless individuals.  All homeless men are welcome to stay at the mission for up to 10 days each month. This time can be extended if our intake staff observes improvement in the man's lifestyle and if he is working to overcome the issues causing his homelessness. Our focus is not to become a free hotel where homeless stay but a place that assists them to overcome these issues. In order to stay at SMHS, the men must be clean and sober, check in on time and be willing to obey the simple rules of courtesy and respect toward the staff, volunteers, and other guests.  Resident Program A Resident Program is provided for men that demonstrate a genuine interest in changing their lives; it is a program where they can live on-site for up to 12 months.  This program is provided without cost to the men.  The overall goal of the Resident Program is to have the men realize that God is their source, to help them gain self-esteem and self-worth, to restore them to a structured life style, and to assist them in becoming employable, productive, and finding affordable housing. The men must complete an an application to become a Resident.  SMHS' Program Manager reviews the application, interviews the man, and recommends successful candidates to the Executive Director for inclusion into the resident program.  A determination is then made based on their mental and physical health and goals they would like to accomplish.  With this information, a decision is made whether our Resident Program would benefit the man. During a Resident's time at Samaritan Ministries, we constantly evaluate them to insure they are making positive progress.  They are taught how to abandon their old way of living and understand they can now begin to address those issues.
