Alvis House has been helping people to successfully transition from correctional supervision to the community. The agency has grown from serving 60 men in its first year to serving more than 4,000 men, women and young adults each year. Alvis House operates residential community reentry centers in Columbus, Chillicothe, Dayton and Toledo, Ohio. Ninety five percent of the individuals incarcerated in state prisons will be released. Upon release, many do not have housing, employment, or basic living skills. These individuals need the support and structure provided by Alvis House’s halfway house services. Our halfway house programs create an important bridge back to the community by providing rehabilitative and residential services. For those who are willing to change their lives, Alvis House can provide the tools they need to become successful. Alvis House’s research-based halfway house programs provide community supervision and case management services such as behavior assessment, individual treatment plans, goal development, counseling, recreation and referral to services. All Alvis House programs begin with assessments to determine the treatment needs of new clients. Alvis House’s professional staff then develop individual plans for each client. Our clients work, attend school and do community service while participating in treatment and programs that help them to rebuild their lives, strengthen their families and become contributing members of the community. Alvis serves nearly 8,000 men, women, young adults and children in Ohio each year. Our programs indirectly impact tens of thousands more. We work to keep families together and make communities safer and generate the 180 Degree Impact that changes lives. Community Reentry Services Data shows that 79% of our clients who had completed the Alvis program three years earlier remained out of the criminal justice system. So how do we achieve this kind of success? With cognitive-behavioral treatment, chemical dependency treatment, workforce development, case management, mentoring, housing assistance, and links to community services and support. Behavioral Health Services Alvis offers two very successful recovery programs: Amethyst and Recovery Choices. Both have changed lives in profound ways. Amethyst achieves this by following an effective treatment model that offers a range of services to women and their families, so they can live fully as healthy, productive citizens. Recovery Choices is a comprehensive, behavioral health treatment program that gives clients the tools they need to turn their lives around.

Halfway Housing helps transition individuals and families from shelters or homelessness to permanent housing. Length of stay is usually anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.  Residents are often required to pay at least 30% of their income toward program fees.  Sometimes the money they pay in fees is returned to them when they leave. Any emergency or homeless shelter that allows their clients to stay more then 6 months is also classified under this category.
