General Information:
Open 24 hours a day. New Horizons Shelter serves single men, single women, and families with children from eight surrounding counties. Our Shelter is open to the residents from 4pm to 8am, Monday-Friday and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Our administrative office including the Day Center is open Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm. ? Intakes are conducted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Single men are encouraged to attend the Salvation Army for seven days prior to entry into LAMP. In order to process, residents must provide LAMP staff with a clearance form from the Valdosta Police Department to screen out those with active warrants and sex offenders to ensure the safety of our children. If the shelter is full, we may place clients in a hotel temporarily if funds are available. ? Residents maintain the facility. They are responsible for cleaning their individual rooms and bathrooms, as well as common areas of the shelter. All cooking and serving of food is performed by designated residents, with supervision. Breakfast and dinner are served daily with lunch being served on the weekends. SERVICES PROVIDED BY LAMP INCLUDE: Emergency Shelter. Temporary emergency housing for homeless families, single parents, single women, and men with the goal of returning them to self-sufficiency. ? ?Supportive Services. (Day Center) for the daily needs of homeless people, such as laundry facilities, restroom, showers, toiletries, point of contact and refuge from the extremes of weather. Open Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm ? Rapid Re-Housing. Rapidly connects families and individuals experiencing homelessness to permanent housing through a tailored package of assistance that may include the use of time-limited financial assistance and targeted supportive services. ? ?Case Management. Our structured case management program is goal-oriented and encourages individuals to address the root causes of their homelessness. When an individual or family enters the shelter, they are immediately paired with a case manager to develop an Individualized Service Plan that acts as a blueprint for success. Case Managers then work with each resident on a regular basis to help guide them through their time at the shelter. ? The Clothes Closet. The Clothes Closet is now located at 2102 Slater Street. The Clothes Closet is now apart of the Ministry of Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Vouchers will still be distributed by LAMP. Vouchers are for anyone needing a fresh change of clothing, dress shoes, or suit and tie for a job interview or church attendance can receive these items as needed. The Clothes Closet. The purpose of this program is to provide short term financial assistance to help stabilize the returning citizen’s re-entry process upon exit from prison. The goal of the program is to enhance her ability to remain crime free.? ? Street Outreach. LAMP's Homeless Street Outreach Program is committed to transforming the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness through comprehensive street outreach that restores dignity and partners with them to reach their housing and life goals. We do this by meeting people where they are in order to build client-centered relationships and by establishing creative community partnerships that eliminate barriers to services.? ? Empowerment Classes. For the residents of the homeless shelter, such as: money management; stress and time management; parenting classes; resume writing; job interview skills; computer classes; GED classes.? ? Referrals. To community programs that assist in providing support to our homeless shelter residents. Some of those programs include: mental health counseling, marriage and family counseling, wellness programs, and post-secondary education services. ? HOURS OF OPERATION ?
