General Information:
Emergency housing for homeless men. The Salvation Army Booth Haven program is a 39 bed men's emergency shelter located on the downtown campus of The Salvation Army Rochester Area Services at 70 Liberty Pole Way, Rochester, NY 14604. The Program provides room and board for up to 39 homeless men. The sleeping areas are in a dormitory-like setting. There are 17 bedrooms, 11 of which accommodate 3 persons, and 6 of which accommodate 1 person. Each resident is provided a bed and a locking dresser. There are common areas on both floors of the facility for leisure and socializing. Three nutritionally balanced meals are provided for all residents each day in the adjacent Salvation Army Central Worship and Service Center. Resident Assistants, whose primary function is to provide support to the residents and create an atmosphere of hospitality and safety within the program, provide supervision of the residents.Other staff members include the Residence Supervisor, Case Managers, and the Program Director, either one is designated to provide supervision to the residents during business hours. There are two staff members on duty at all times providing supervision to the residents. Information and Referral Services are provided on a limited basis by Resident Assistant staff. Laundry Service is provided on site. Program staff does the linen laundering. Laundry machines are available to residents for personal use at no charge, during posted hours. Additional Services Various services from outside agencies are initiated and provided on-site. An outreach caseworker from the local Department of Social Services is available on site several times per week to assist those residents in the application and eligibility process for public assistance benefits.Substance abuse counselors, mental health therapists, medical professionals, and Veterans advocates from various community social service agencies provide on-site outreach, assessment, and referrals to appropriate treatment. The outreach is done both individually, as well as in groups. Several of the professionals from the various health disciplines noted above lead educational groups on a weekly basis, providing relevant information and therapeutic outlet to the residents. Other on-site educational and self-help groups include HIV/STD Awareness, Landlord/Tenant Rights and Responsibilities, and AA/NA style 12 Step Groups. Residents have access to educational (GED/literacy training), vocational (job readiness training), and recreational opportunities in The Salvation Army's Worship and Service Center. Limited transportation assistance in the form of bus tokens is provided to residents who have appointments or employment not within walking distance of the site.
