Class of Housing/Services: Emergency shelter for shelter for families, single women, and single men

General Information:
The Port Cities Rescue Mission provides shelter for families, single women, and single men through three separate facilities. Located in downtown Port Arthur, Texas, the Mission has been providing these services since 1984. Services Emergency Shelter and Food Essential Services/Case Management Transportation, Life Skills, Residential Drug and Alcohol Recover Services Homeless Prevention/Essential Services Men's Emergency Shelter This facility is located at 1001 6th St. and 624 Mobile Ave.  This Facility provides shelter for up to 18 men on any given night. Women's Emergency Shelter This facility is located at 531 Atlanta Ave.  This Facility provides shelter for up to 10 single women on any given night. Family Center - 900 6th St. Providing shelter to families with or without children and those with disabilities.  Facility includes 10 bedrooms, dining and laundry facilities. Magdalene Transitional Housing Project This facility is located at 530 Waco Ave.  It provides shelter for 18 men in the area's first Residential Recovery Program addressing the issue of chemical dependency as it relates to homelessness and self-sufficiency in a positive manner by providing continued recovery, job training and placement, budgeting, combined with neccessary life skills to become a productive citizen in society. The Light House Apartments I and II Located at the following locations: 849 5th Street and 2132 Procter.  Provides permanent housing for those completing the Magdalene Transitional Housing Project, those Emergency Shelter clients meeting requiremnets, as well as people of our community. Duplex The Duplex's are located at 845 6th St 837 6th St 1001 6th St.  The Mission has 3 (1) bedroom duplexes for residents and people of the community who are in need of permanet shelter but have had a hard time finding housing in our community because of their background or financial situation. This-N-That This facility is located at 531 Mobile Ave.  This-N-That is a thrift store that is filled with donations and contributions from the commmunity and other sponsor of Port Cities Rescue Mission.  We allow the residents to get whatever they may need from clothes, furniture, toys, etc.  All other donations are sold at lesser value to the community. 32 - Bed Facility This facility is located at 603 5th Street.  and is currently being occupied by Jefferson County Adult Day Center, this facility is used for all events, meetings, holiday gatherings, etc.... Providing Needed Programs Combatting the cycle of homelessness by resolving the underlying issues... Our primary goal is still to provide shelter, but at the same time we wish to address the issues that create the enviroment that eventually causes individuals to become homeless.

Helpful Definitions For Port Cities Rescue Mission Ministries:
Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
