General Information:
Housing assistance programs: 1. Eviction Assistance and sheltering the homeless. The DSS Housing Unit offers comprehensive social services to families and individuals facing potential homelessness. Housing staff coordinates with family members, landlords and attorneys to avert impending evictions, negotiate payment of rent arrears and explore housing alternatives. - Emergency shelter placement is provided when necessary. - Referrals to other DSS or County Units are made as needed. 2. HPRP Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program Under the Homelessness Prevention & Rapid Re-housing Program grant (HPRP), the DSS Housing Unit oversees a short-term program that provides direct rent assistance payments to individuals facing imminent eviction, and/or are at risk of becoming homeless. Maximum assistance amounts & income eligibility requirements apply. Program funded through federal stimulus/recovery grant, overseen by the Rockland County Office of Community Development.
