General Information:
Provides a halfway house, emergency shelter and transitional housing for men. Also provides transitional housing apartments for women and children. Eva's Village Emergency Overnight Shelter for Men, in the Sister Cathy Center at 389 Main Street, provides 40 beds for homeless men 18 years of age and older. Eva's Village Emergency Overnight Shelter for Women, at 31 Jackson Street, provides 36 emergency shelter beds for homeless single women 18 years of age or older. The shelters are filled to capacity during most of the year. The homeless men and women in these programs often suffer from mental illness, substance abuse and limited resources. At Eva's Village we provide the homeless with the basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing. To address the underlying problems associated with homelessness we introduce the clients to services available at Eva's and in the community. At Eva's Village we provide the homeless with the basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing. To address the underlying problems associated with homelessness we introduce the clients to services available at Eva's and in the community. Transitional Apartments for Mothers and Children Eva's Transitional Apartments for Mothers and Children, at 17 Jackson Street, offers 6 two-bedroom apartments for families who are ready to leave the Hope Residence for Mothers and Children but need additional time and resources to move into their own apartment. They can stay for up to six months while they prepare for a more permanent and stable home environment.  Transitional Housing for men Eva's Transitional Housing for Men at 22 Jackson Street provides affordable housing for 10 formerly homeless men who have graduated from Eva's Halfway House for Men but can benefit from continued support services to sustain their new self-sufficiency. Residents share household responsibilities. They must have a regular source of income to cover the nominal monthly rent obligation, and must also agree to random alcohol/drug testing, to attend three NA/AA meetings per week and a monthly house meeting.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.Halfway Housing helps transition individuals and families from shelters or homelessness to permanent housing. Length of stay is usually anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.  Residents are often required to pay at least 30% of their income toward program fees.  Sometimes the money they pay in fees is returned to them when they leave. Any emergency or homeless shelter that allows their clients to stay more then 6 months is also classified under this category.
Oftentimes halfway houses also assist in the treatment of substance abuse and/or alcohol and drug detox. Speak with the halfway house to see if this applies.
