General Information:
Phase 1 Group Maternity Home Up to 12 months Mother pregnant, possibly working. All of the mothers will enjoy a Catholic Christian spiritual atmosphere, where they can learn to make good moral judgments and choices in their lives. The Mother will be taught to cook, keep house and budget her money through practical real life experiences. The new mothers will begin to learn to pay their own way by putting 30% of their earnings each month into an account (similar to an escrow account) which will be returned to them at the end of their stay in The Maternity of Mary Homes for Mothers in Crisis, in the same manner as a security deposit on a rental. When returned, these funds can be used to pay security deposit on an apartment, utility deposits, etc. Through various classes the pregnant mother will have an opportunity to learn a variety of things for daily living. The pregnant mother will be connected with medical assistance for the best pre-natal care available. The mothers will have an opportunity to go to school and complete their education or avail themselves of our "Trades for Transition" program. Thus they will be able to parent their children in the early stages of life. The "Mary's Helpers" mentors will begin to work with the mothers to form a relationship that will continue throughout their lives, if they wish. Phase 2 Group Transitional Home 9 - 12 months The baby has arrived, mother possibly still employed. Mothers who have been working outside of the home will now have another opportunity to avail themselves of the "Trades for Transition" program. New mothers will also continue to attend the classes mentioned in phase 1. The new mothers will begin to learn to pay their own way by paying their own utilities and rent, which is pro-rated based on their income in order to learn how to pay their bills on time and begin to establish credit toward life in the secular world. Continued or new connections with Mary's Helpers. Phase 3 Individual Transitional Housing 1 - 2 years Mother Child Bonding period. Mother working, caring for her child. As the mothers become more independent and better able to provide for themselves and their child (children) they can move into individual transitional housing in which they can continue the work they have been doing up to this point. If they have not already done so, they can avail themselves of the "Trades for Transition" program, and stay home to work while they raise their baby and earn the income necessary to provide for their needs as well as their child (children). Mary's Helpers will become more involved as a contact for the new mothers in the world. Phase 4 The mothers on their own with Mary's Helpers A lifetime (if desired by both parties) The mothers transition to their own homes with their children. With the help of Mary's Helpers, they set up housekeeping and continue with their work or education. They are basically on their own now, with up to 4 years of close, Catholic Christian connections to shore them up for the secular world outside of this apostolate.
