General Information:
Outreach office hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:30 pm Men's Program - FKOC provides homeless assistance for Monroe County, Florida residents. Four facilities; The William M. Neece Center for Homeless Recovery, Sunrise House, Sunshine Bunks at the transitional housing for menHouse and Sunrich House, offer case managed residential services for up to 70 homeless men. Purpose: To offer a three-phase program to house homeless men up to two years and enable them to move from the streets to a sober, stable employment and residential situation. Clients must live peaceably in a group setting with other men who may or may not be dealing with issues of substance abuse or mental health. Women's Program - FKOC Sunflower and Sunlight Houses serve women with children and homeless single women as referred by Samuel's House and The Domestic Abuse Shelter (DAS). These facilities offer case management services for up to 52 women and children. Purpose: To offer homeless women and homeless women with their minor children a safe and substance-free environment where they can learn, practice, and assimilate the necessary life skills for educational or vocational training, maintain stable employment, raise their children, and sustain themselves in permanent housing.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
