Union Rescue Mission is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring the lives of the homeless and poor in Los Angeles by seeking to empower them to break the cycle of poverty and become self-sufficient. Union Rescue Mission is one of the oldest and largest missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. Nutritious meals, hot showers, warm beds, clothing, shoes, haircuts, a safe place, and a listening ear are a few of the things URM offers men, women and children everyday. Our first priority is to meet basic needs, and then to assist in finding ways for one to get back on their feet. Most services are free of charge. Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses.
