Class of Housing/Services: supportive housing programs, etc.
General Information:
The Family Services Program serves up to 110 families at a time and includes a diverse pool of resources that can be adapted to meet the specific and unique needs of each family. These resources include short-term rental subsidies, permanent supportive housing placement, long-term case management, interim housing options, and referrals to our Parent Support and Counseling Programs. Case management for families includes legal advocacy, financial empowerment, domestic violence support, parenting support, employment advocacy, life skills classes, referrals for physical/mental health needs and chemical dependency treatment/counseling, and much more. Supportive Services Since 2001, Lydia Place has partnered with the Bellingham Housing Authority to provide in-home support to residents in 79 units dedicated to permanent supportive housing. Lydia Place provides support through the application process and ongoing intensive case management for these families exiting homelessness.
Community Re-Housing Program providing support and advocacy
In operation since 2008, the Community Rehousing Program is funded in large part by Whatcom County. In this program, Lydia Place case managers work tirelessly to find permanent homes for individuals and families. Serving up to 40 households at a time, this program utilizes a wide array of housing options to meet the complex needs of those we serve. The primary focus of this program is to work with private landlords throughout the community to secure housing and provide short-term rental assistance and in-home case management once housing is secured.
Campus Support Program supporting families, fostering community
The Campus Support Program is a unique blend of resources supporting women in safely exiting homelessness and finding stability. The Campus Support Program includes Baker Place, Bell Tower Community Center, and is expanding to include our Transitional House (Gladstone House). Baker Place Campus A strategic partnership with Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services (DVSAS), Baker Place is made up of three structures, including a seven-unit apartment building. These apartments are operated by Lydia Place and provide permanent supportive housing to women experiencing homelessness who face a multitude of barriers. The other two structures are operated by DVSAS and provide emergency shelter for women fleeing domestic violence. Lydia Place provides housing assessment and case management to the women and children at the existing DVSAS Safe Shelter. This natural extension of the Lydia Place and DVSAS partnership allows both agencies to maximize resources and effectiveness. Bell Tower Community Center Entering its second year, Bell Tower Community Center is comprised of five units of permanent supportive housing located in downtown Bellingham. This facility provides affordable options for women exiting homelessness who want to build community and who cannot afford the rent of a private market apartment. The Campus Support Program case manager provides on-site support services and residents have access to our Parent Support, and Counseling Programs. Gladstone House The Family Services Program includes the Gladstone House, which is the original program of Lydia Place and has been serving our community for 29 years. In 2018 we will be adapting the Transitional House to allow more flexibility in meeting the needs of families remaining on the waiting list for housing services. We will continue to focus on assisting mothers and children in healing from the violence, trauma, and poverty they have experienced, while supporting them in establishing a safe, stable, and independent life for themselves and their children.
