General Information:
HONOR is an acronym for Helping Others Needing Our Resources and strives to do just that, help others needing our resources. We provide individualized and integrated services to people who may be combating chemical dependency, in need of transitional housing, or requiring crisis intervention. Our staff is committed to reconstructing the self-esteem, self-sufficiency, and dignity of our clients through access to counseling, training in marketable employment skills, and above all, nonjudgmental compassion and care.    Shelters and Permanent Housing Adult and Family Shelters Our Adult and Family Shelters provide emergency housing for single men, single women and families. Our guests are provided three nutritionally balanced meals each day, transportation, and counseling to help them to become self-sufficient. “A Friend’s House” Youth Shelter A Friend’s House provides shelter and support to homeless and runaway youths between the ages of 1 and 17. Our goal is to safely reunite the youths with their families. Stephen Saunders Residence Stephen Saunders Residence provides permanent housing and support services to individuals with HIV/AIDS. Ecclesia House Ecclesia House provides safe transitional congregate housing for homeless single women who demonstrate potential for achieving independence and self sufficiency. Addictions Services Middletown Addiction Crisis Center Our Middletown Addictions Crisis Center provides immediate access to crisis care intervention and medically monitored detoxification in a safe and structured residential environment. Managed Addictions Treatment Services Our Managed Addictions Treatment Services provide ongoing care management for individuals who suffer from substance abuse addiction and have a history of relapses. Case Management Services Living Independently Through New Knowledge and Services (LINKS) Our Living Independently Through New Knowledge and Services (LINKS) program assesses the needs of our guest and develops a mutually formulated independent living plan for all enrolled shelter guests. Financial Case Management Service Our Financial Case Management Services provide representative payeeship and direct financial management for clients with disabilities to ensure permanent housing stability and future homelessness prevention. Aftercare Service Our Aftercare Services provide guests who have been positively discharged from our shelters with services to ensure that each is maintaining involvement with service linkages so that ongoing independence is enjoyed and that another episode of homelessness does not occur.

Helpful Definitions For Honor Helping Others In Need:
Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.

Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.

Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.
