General Information:
Shelters The Women's Center–YFS offers an immediate safe haven, as well as food, clothing, and supportive services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and for homeless and runaway youth through its shelter programs. All services are free and confidential. DAWN (Directions for Abused Women in Need) House, established in 1982, is the agency's first and largest undisclosed shelter for battered women and their children, located in Stockton. DAWN House has the capacity to house up to 42 women and children at a time, and serves more than 400 individuals each year. Serenity House, opened in 2015, is an undisclosed emergency shelter for battered women and their children residing in South San Joaquin County. Located in Tracy, Serenity House offers a comprehensive 60-day program with the capacity to serve up to 12 women and their children at any one time. Victims access Serenity House through our 24-hour help line or law enforcement for initial safe entry into shelter. Safe House opened in 1991 with funding from the federal Department of Health and Human Services, Family and Youth Services Bureau. Safe House offers up to 21 days of shelter and supportive services for runaway, throwaway and homeless youth aged 12-17. Opportunity House Transitional Living Program was opened in 1996 with funds from the federal Department of Health and Human Services, Family and Youth Services Bureau. Opportunity House provides up to 21 months of shelter and supportive services to prepare runaway, throwaway and homeless youth for independent living. The program serves youth aged 18-21 and emancipated youth from 16-17 years old.
