Class of Housing/Services: Halfway House for Women, Substance Abuse Treatment

General Information:
Provides a halfway house and substance abuse treatment for women. As the first long-term residential recovery program for women in Georgia, Breakthru House is designed to meet the unique needs of women struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Utilizing the 12 Steps and a Therapeutic Community, Breakthru House provides a safe, structured drug free environment to foster a life of recovery while therapeutically addressing addiction as a disease, unresolved grief, trauma, and poor self-esteem issues commonly associated with female addicts. Breakthru House provides long term residential recovery services for up to 18 months. Upon  completion of  the Assessment Phase, women deemed appropriate will enter the treatment program, which utilizes a levels system to foster growth, healing, and long lasting recovery. Each level has a clearly defined theme to enable a women to build a foundation, explore, integrate and transition into a life of recovery. The program consists of day treatment at the DeKalb Addiction Clinic for the first five to six months, process groups, individual counseling, and enrichment groups. Upon completion of day treatment, women begin the Job Readiness portion of the program. Here, they are connected with a job coach, who utilizes community resources to enhance an individual’s job skills and assists them in re-entering the workforce. Upon completing the program, women are encouraged to attend Breakthru’s after care group and become involved with our alumnae committee.

Halfway Housing helps transition individuals and families from shelters or homelessness to permanent housing. Length of stay is usually anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.  Residents are often required to pay at least 30% of their income toward program fees.  Sometimes the money they pay in fees is returned to them when they leave.
