General Information:
For men only The Riverside Tradition House is a halfway house for mental health treatment in Jacksonville. The Riverside Tradition House is a non profit organization. Call for further information.   Riverside Tradition House (RTH) was established in 1971 by Riverside Presbyterian Church and its members to meet a need in the community for a safe, secure residence for adult men wishing to recover from the problems resulting from substance abuse. RTH provides an encouraging living environment for those willing and able to return to meaningful employment and a productive lifestyle but need the temporary support of a structured environment. RTH was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization and remains a mission of Riverside Presbyterian Church. The Church retains ownership of the RTH and the strong financial support of the Church and its members assure the continued operation of the mission.   RTH is located in a large, historic home constructed in 1915 in the heart of Jacksonville’s Riverside-Avondale Historic District. In 2001 RTH purchased a four-unit apartment building across the street from the main house and that is used as a further step in the return to independent living for individuals that have been at RTH for a period of time and are doing well in their sobriety and their careers.   RTH has kept pace with changes in alcohol and drug abuse treatment over the years and many residents come to RTH directly from treatment centers throughout the country. RTH offers an on site counselor that spends time with each resident and emphasis is given to reinforcing positive attitudes in mind, body and spirit.   Residents are provided with three hot meals per day prepared by our full-time cooks and bag lunches are provided for those going out to work. There is a strong emphasis on the value of good nutrition. Persons interested in RTH can call at (904) 384-1839 and speak with the Manager.   Admission All residents are required to be sober at the time of admission and to take up residency at RTH of their own free will, realizing that they need help with their problem. Residency is limited to thirty men.  Counseling with an on-staff professional experienced in addictive rehabilitation and family counseling is available. Two weekly meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous are held at RTH and residents are encouraged to attend additional outside AA meetings in the local community.
