Each year, the American Red Cross responds to more than 70,000 disasters--most of them local fires that never make the news, but also earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and other natural and man-made disasters. Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting the immediate emergency needs of people affected by disaster: shelter, food, medical care and mental health services. Financial assistance is provided to help victims resume independent living. All disaster relief is given free of charge as a gift from the American people. American Red Cross provides shelter and supportie services for those involved in a disaster. Services include: - Emergency shelter - Food - Health and mental health services.
