Class of Housing/Services: Julian Street Inn provides emergency and transitional housing for adults working to overcome homelessness and mental illness.
General Information:
Bay Area Shelter Hotline: 1-800-774-35837 Julian Street Inn provides emergency shelter to the severely mentally ill. The shelter consists of 72 beds serving both men and women. Clients can stay for up to 60 days. Case management is provided. For more information call the Bay Area Shelter Hotline, contact Julian Street Inn or visit the InnVision website. Julian Street Inn is the only facility in Santa Clara County that provides emergency shelter to clients diagnosed with mental illness. We have 70 beds available for individual men and women diagnosed with mental illness and actively engaged in the mental health care system. Clients may stay for up to 60 days. Our Day Rehabilitation Program offers rehabilitation services to residents and former residents, Monday through Friday. Individuals receive one-on-one counseling and support as well as participating in support groups. Support groups are designed to help clients increase coping skills, maintain sobriety, and develop resources to help them maintain independence.
LifeMoves programs are free of charge for the people we serve and our team provides far more than temporary shelter. In exchange, mandatory and full engagement in our programming is required by all participants. Hard work and accountability are the norm. We expect people to succeed and they do. Last year, 78% of individuals who completed our transitional housing programs returned to stable housing and self-sufficiency. LifeMoves programs teach homeless adults the life skills they need to find a rapid and lasting return to stable housing and long-term self-sufficiency. Our clients will engage in an extensive collection of life-changing supportive services expertly coordinated by dedicated and experienced Case Managers and other direct services staff. Case Management: Our trained Case Managers support clients’ unique needs, helping manage budgets, connect with resources, and make active progress toward regaining stable housing Job and Housing Search Assistance: Staff and volunteers provide clients with training, tools,resources to find and secure employment and housing they can afford Financial Literacy and Savings: We teach clients to manage a personal budget and to save emergency needs. Clients in the LifeMoves transitional housing program must save at least 50% of their income Mental Health support: Anxiety and depression are common for adults and children experiencing the trauma of homelessness. Supervised by 2 Ph.d. Psychologists, all of the people we serve get immediate mental health support while in our programs and we do an excellent job of connecting our clients to longer term help in the community upon program completion Life Skills Education: We equip our clients to achieve and maintain long-term self-sufficiency teaching them life skills through nightly workshops on financial literacy, parenting, nutrition, and other life skills Direct Client Assistance: We also assist our clients with practical support: basic car/bicycle repairs to assure reliable transportation to work/school, bus, train, BART and other transportation passes, fees for college and university applications, assistance with tuition and/or certification testing fees, etc. We have clothing closets to help our clients dress for success for work and job interviews, and for attending school and even social events. Upon program completion, to continue to save money, our clients move into their new residences with a generous supply of donated linens, kitchen supplies, dishes, silverware, pillows, small appliances, toiletries, clothing, and in many cases donated furniture. The critical lessons of savings and financial literacy are firmly ingrained.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless
or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.
Many Transitional Housing programs are subsidized and are income based. Income based transitional housing generally charges 30% of your income for rent when you do have income. Contact the transitional housing facility to see if this applies.
Services provided at transitional housing facilities varies from substance abuse treatment, to psychological assistance, job
training, domestic violence assistance, etc. The assistance provided varies, but it is generally affordable and low cost housing. Read the descriptions of each
of the transitional living locations for more detailed information. Transitional housing facilities also may or may not assist with alcohol and/or drug substance abuse treatment.Drug And Alcohol Rehab programs are intended to treat alcohol and/or drug dependency. The cost of participating in one of these programs and the method of treatment range significantly.
